Context
Ruohomaa captures the sublime in his image of an island snowstorm, and in the hardiness of islanders in the midst of the island’s sometimes dangerous beauty. As Andrew Wyeth wrote in the Foreword to "Night Train at Wiscasset Station" (1977): “Those were the days of trick-angle shots. Kosti avoided trickery. His photographs were candid, but his moments of illumination were caught without the aid of showy dramatic effects. They were the simple truth.”

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
