Context
Robert Henri’s (1865-1929) influence is visible in Kroll’s painting of white-capped waters along the rocky shore of the southern Maine village of Ogunquit. Despite its small size, this freely painted and boldly colored study is full of energy – the expressive approach to painting Henri advocated.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
