Context
Part of Nevelson’s room-sized installation in a 1959 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, "Dawn’s Wedding Feast", it represents one of ten witnesses to the marriage ceremony that was the subject of the installation. It stood on a narrow platform flanking the piece’s symbolic altar. Although it was Nevelson’s wish to keep the work intact, over the years individual pieces were sold to museums and private collectors.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
