Context
Though small in scale, this work exhibits the same sensitivity toward form and composition found in Nevelson’s larger sculptures. For her, the circle within a square was a mystical configuration, suggesting a meeting of the sun and the moon, or the mind and the heart.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
