Context
Even Nevelson’s small-scale sculptures can be powerful in their impact. Her combination of rectangular and curved forms move back and forth, up and down, forward and backward, and even beyond the implied confines of the base. Painted black, it thus redefines the space it occupies.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
