Context
One of several works by the artist made in collaboration with Donald Saff’s Graphic Studio at the University of South Florida, it was produced for the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange Exhibition (ROCI) which sought to promote educational and social harmony in the ten countries he visited. This Japanese piece is made of bamboo, a widely used plant native to Japan known for its flexibility and strength, and is a symbol of prosperity.
