Context
When he heard about the blazing Milo Crook farm Peirce followed fire trucks to the scene, and unnoticed amidst the chaos of the afternoon, he painted as the fire raged from the barn to the main house. Peirce chronicled his impression of the day’s frenzy in bright color and quick brushwork, emphasizing its liveliness; even the Bangor Daily News provided an animated account of the event.
