Context
Will Barnet painted Maine and those traditions that evoke Maine’s Maritime past, as seen in "Infinite", part of his "Women and the Sea" series. Back in the days of schooners and passages to far corners of the globe that could take years, women frequented “widow walks” at the top of their homes or on shore awaiting the return of the ship and their husbands, brothers, sweethearts, or sons.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
