Context
Wyeth’s painting was used for the cover illustration of the August 1912 edition of "Popular Magazine". Unlike most of his paintings, it was not intended to illustrate a specific story. In it a father and daughter stand atop a hay wagon amidst a bountiful landscape and cloud-filled sky above, affording Wyeth with the opportunity to demonstrate his skills as a landscape painter.

Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
